Introduction

Most people do not want to die alone in sterile, impersonal surroundings, hooked up by tubes to machines and cut off from their family and friends and everything that's familiar. Nor do they want to die in pain. They would prefer, if possible, to spend their last days at home...alert and free of pain...among the people and things they love. The promises made by Hospice that an individual will not suffer unnecessarily in pain and will not die alone are profoundly important; these promises themselves can diminish suffering. Mountain Valley Hospice is dedicated to making this possible.

Mountain Valley Hospice offers help and support to the patient and family on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis. Patients routinely receive visits from a nurse, home health aide, social worker, chaplain, and other members of the Hospice interdisciplinary team. The Hospice plan of care is based on patient/family perceived need.

Long ago, hospice meant shelter. Refuge. A resting place on a long
and difficult journey.

Today, Hospice is an approach to medical care that provides shelter from the distress of terminal disease.

Rather than prolonging life
through cure-oriented treatment Hospice uses a combination of special skills and therapies to help the
patient and his or her family
live their remaining days
together as fully as possible.

For those who travel this difficult journey, Hospice means a resting place of dignity, compassion and support.
